Alternative Artists the Alternative Way

I'm too dopey to talk about Korea after my ride home now. Here's the post I promised about music:

I don't do this sort of thing terribly often but I'm going to do it today. I'm going to share with you a web site that you should know about. It's a music site called Magnatune. Magnatune is a music distribution site that supports the Creative Commons license. In short the Creative Commons license is a new approach to licensing digital media that takes a more realistic view of the digital age and shows greater respect to the artists who create material rather than the companies that promote them.

Magnatune offers a wide variety of music which you can purchase legally for as little as $5 per CD. 50% of every purchase goes directly to the artist. That is significantly more than the percentage that they receive from your CD purchase at you favorite music store. The music is good and diverse and a welcomed alternative from the traditional music publishing techniques. I think if you take the time to check them out you'll be very pleased and you will be helping to change the face of how artists can provide music to you and how you can give them more support for less money. I found them completely by accident, but I'm already a fan. I will probably be licensing some of their music for upcoming shows.

Look at Magnatune. If you find something you like let me know. As an artist and a technology guy I like to see things like this that blend the best of both to the benefit of all. This is the future of music, video and information. I'm excited.

In the mean time I'm still in Korea. Stay tuned for more.
